I just wanted to say THANK YOU to Carla, Liz, my wife (who doesn't blog yet...maybe 2009), and others who have helped tremendously in my most recent gainful employment expeditions.
Today I have good news to report. Evidently the better qualified person didn't work out for even one day... so they called me. I am now the Shuttle Driver/ Banquet Man for the Hampton Inn - Airport North. I work Thursday and Friday nights every week. Yes, I get to work on Christmas day. Goodie! I am very happy about this; not because it will allow me to meet all of our financial obligations and live an abundant life, but because it will be a workable stop gap measure so we don't hit crisis while I go through the lengthy process of finding a real professional 8-5 job. Who knows, maybe my teddy bear like smile and irresistible personality will produce outrageously large tips and I'll get rich working two days a week. It could happen. Either way, there are some good options and I am encouraged.
Just wanted to say thank you to the TTSM readers for your thoughts and prayers, and for allowing me to share life with you! Many folks in our church and other circles are currently looking for work...it reminds me to be thankful for the many blessings I've received. Hope you do the same. Merry Christmas!

Help Wanted
Do you remember the good old days when looking for a job meant driving around town picking up applications, taking them back, following up with the manager, getting "face time", and waiting for that coveted interview? Does this process still exists? The one where you know that a phone call is good and the thin letter in the mail is bad... does anyone still do that?
It seems like everyone insists on having you apply online these days. Often times you are required to fill out a survey of some sort that has multiple choice questions like...
What is the most you have stolen from a previous employer?
or
Would you ever smoke crack before or during your shift?
or
Have you ever been in a physical altercation (fists fight or shoving match) with a customer or fellow employee?
The whole process seems surreal, a little weird, and even uncomfortable to me. Despite that, I have been persistently exploring my options for sustainability in these economically challenging times. There are some real uncertainties in the life of a bi-vocational church planter. It seems like uncertainty is where most people live right now. Maybe that's why instead of the thin letter in the mail, or maybe an interview invitation, I keep getting very nice emails like this:
Thank you for submitting your profile with us for the Part-Time Technical Support CSR position. Your background is impressive. We are fortunate to have many well-qualified candidates. At this time, we have decided to move forward in the selection process with other candidates whose experience and qualifications are a better match for this position. We appreciate your interest in joining our team. Please log on to www.*********.com to explore other career opportunities with us.

Evidently there are a lot of people in the job market who don't steal, don't do crack, and wait till after work to assault their co-workers. Makes finding work tough.
